ERIE, Pa. – Head coach Michael Sisti of the Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team announced Tuesday the addition of four newcomers to the 2010-11 women’s hockey roster.  Lauren Barnes (Eagan, Minn. / Burnsville), Christine Bestland (Brunkild, Manitoba / Pursuit of Excellence), Christie Cicero (Manalapan, N.J. / New Jersey Rockets) and Ashley Harper (Butler, Pa. / Culver Military Academy) will join 19 players returning from a team that finished 30-3-3 a season ago and three-time All-American Meghan Agosta, who returns after taking the year off to compete at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

TOWSON, Md. – Mercyhurst College women’s hockey forward Vicki Bendus has been named a First Team CoSIDA / ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, CoSIDA officials announced on Thursday. Bendus, the only junior on the Women’s At-Large University Division First Team, becomes the second Mercyhurst player to earn Academic All-America honors this week, joining Kyle King of the men’s tennis team.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team saw its season come to an end as Cornell’s Catherine White scored the game-winner 13:14 into overtime, lifting Big Red to a stunning 3-2 victory over the top-ranked and No. 1-seeded Lakers at the 2010 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four Friday evening at Ridder Arena.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Junior forward Vicki Bendus of the top-ranked Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team was the women’s hockey recipient of the NCAA Elite 88 Award, an honor given to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average participating at an NCAA Championship event.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Juniors Vicki Bendus and Jesse Scanzano of the top-ranked Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team have been named RBK All-Americans by the American Hockey Coaches Association, it was announced Thursday evening at the NCAA Women’s Frozen Four Champions Banquet in Minneapolis, Minn.

The top-ranked Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team faces ECAC Hockey opponent Cornell in the semifinal round of the 2010 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four on Friday, March 19 at Ridder Arena. Mercyhurst enters the game with a 30-2-3 record and an 11-0-1 all-time mark against Cornell. Both teams met earlier this season, with the Lakers prevailing 4-1 at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, N.Y.

ERIE, Pa. – Fans wishing to follow the top-ranked Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team at the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four this weekend will have several opportunities to cheer on the Lakers if they are at the game or not.

ERIE, Pa. – The top-ranked Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team earned a berth in the Women’s Frozen Four for the second consecutive season, defeating No. 8 Boston U. 4-1 in an NCAA Quarterfinal game Saturday, March 13 in front of 1,300 fans at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers will take on No. 5 Cornell in the NCAA Semifinals Friday evening at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.

Mercyhurst junior forward Vicki Bendus (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) is one of the three finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award.
