Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst moved its record to 9-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in College Hockey America play by sweeping Wayne State last weekend by the scores of 7-1 and 5-2. The Lakers have now defeated the Warriors in 12 straight contest and hold a 44-2-3 grasp on the all-time series…Junior Jess Jones recorded seven points in the sweep and set a career-high for points in a game with five (2-3-5) in the game one victory. Senior captain Meghan Agosta scored her 12th career hat trick in Friday’s 7-1 victory. She now has 13 goals and 25 points on the season. Junior Hillary Pattenden won her eighth and ninth games of the season by recording both decisions. Senior assistant captain Vicki Bendus scored a goal and marked assist in both games, giving her points in every game she has played in this season. Mercyhurst returns to action this weekend when it hosts Colgate on Saturday, Nov. 27 at Tullio Arena, home of the 2011 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four. The Lakers own a 14-2-2 advantage over the Raiders in the all-time series. Niagara: The Niagara Purple Eagles (3-8-3) drew twice at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers with identical 1-1 scorelines on Friday and Saturday. The consecutive ties were NU’s first weekend series ties since Jan. 17-18 against Syracuse. Sophomore forward Jenna Hendrikx provided both Purple Eagles goals over the weekend. In Friday’s game, Hendrikx gave NU a 1-0 lead with 7:35 on the clock in the second period. The Engineers would tie the game with 44 seconds left in regulation. On Saturday, Hendrikx scored the equalizer at 14:53 shortly after RPI took 1-0 lead in the third period. Freshman goalie Sarah Moses made her third career start on Friday and finished with a 0.92 gaa and .966 save pct. On Saturday, senior goalie Jenni Bauer made 30 saves for a.968 gaa and 0.92 save pct. Niagara will play its fifth-and-sixth-straight road games this week at No. 2 Cornell on Friday/Saturday. Robert Morris: After it pulled a stunning upset of defending national champion Wisconsin last November on the road, Robert Morris hosted the unanimous No. 1 Badgers this weekend and ended up on the short end of a pair of 7-1 decisions. Despite the defeats, there were some bright spot for the Colonials. Freshman defenseman Kylie St. Louis scored her first-career goal in the series opener as sophomore Dayna Newsom and senior assistant captain Sara O'Malley provided the helpers. RMU fired 27 shots at the Badger goal Friday, marking the most shots an opponent has taken against Wisconsin this season. Junior assistant captain Kathryn Stack ensured that RMU would not be shutout Saturday as she put home her own rebound after sophomore Jennifer Kindret intercepted a Badger pass and found Stack cutting down the center of the ice. With Stack's goal, Robert Morris' scoring streak remained intact—an opponent has been unable to shutout the Colonials in their last 22 games, a program best for RMU, even though they have played nine of those contests against nationally-ranked teams. These games were also the fourth and fifth already this season that Robert Morris has played against a team that has been ranked No. 1 nationally at some point this season. RMU will conclude its six-game homestand next weekend when it welcomes the University of Maine to Pittsburgh for a pair of games, Friday, Nov. 26, and Saturday, Nov. 27. Syracuse: Syracuse was idol this weekend and remains 5-5-1 overall. Sophomore Isabel Menard leads the Orange with seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points this season. She is tied for second in the CHA and tied for fifth nationally with 1.09 assists per game. Her 1.73 points per game are tied for ninth nationally and are tied for third in the CHA. Senior Ashley Cockell is seventh in the nation and third in the CHA in scoring by a defenseman with .82 points per game. As a team, Syracuse is averaging 3.09 points per game, which ranks 12th nationally and second in the CHA. The Orange will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate on Tuesday, November 23 at 7 p.m. at Starr Rink. The Raiders lead the all-time series 3-0, including a 5-4 overtime win last season in Syracuse. Colgate has won each matchup by just one goal. Wayne State: Wayne State was swept at home by fourth-ranked Mercyhurst over the weekend. The Warriors have lost 12 straight meetings with the Lakers. Senior forward Adriann Pfeffer scored her first goal of the season on Skate for the Cure night on Friday, but the Warriors could not overcome the hat trick by Meghan Agosta which included two third-period tallies. On Saturday, Wayne State led 1-0 at the first intermission and 2-1 after 40 minutes of play, but a flurry of offense in the third period by the Lakers voided the potential for a split series. Junior forward Veronique Laramee-Paquette had a goal and an assist on Saturday and finished with three points in the series. The Warriors will host Minnesota State this weekend at the City Sports Center. |
