Niagara women’s hockey head coach Chris MacKenzie has revealed the Purple Eagles’ 2011-12 schedule.  The Purples Eagles’ 33-game schedule features road dates at the 2011 NCAA Tournament national runner-up Boston University, Ohio State and Maine.

“This year’s schedule will have team from all over the country,” MacKenzie said.  “It will be a very difficult schedule and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

The Purple Eagles will see some familiar faces this season as they will play five teams they competed against last year.  New Hampshire, Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI), St. Lawrence, Colgate and Maine all make repeat appearances on the 2011-12 non-conference schedule.

Niagara starts its campaign at Dwyer Arena when it hosts UNH on Sept 30-Oct 1.  Niagara will then hit the road for their first-ever meeting with last year’s national runner-up Boston University on Oct. 7-8.  The Purple Eagles will make the trip back to Dwyer Arena for two games against RPI and a game against St. Lawrence.

NU will take to the road the following weekend to face two Ivy League schools in Yale (Oct. 21) and Princeton (Oct. 22).  The following weekend the Purple Eagles will play the University of Vermont (Oct. 28-29) for the first time since Oct. 2005.  On Nov. 4-5, Colgate will venture up to Monteagle Ridge to take on the Purple Eagles, followed by games at Maine for a weekend series on Nov. 11-12.

To mark the halfway point of the season Niagara will welcome St. Cloud State to Dwyer on Nov. 18-19 and  next on the schedule is Ohio State (Dec. 2-3). The Purple Eagles will then wrap up non-conference play with a weekend series against Clarkson at Dwyer on Dec. 10-11.

For the second straight season, Niagara will travel to Mercyhurst to start conference play on Jan. 13-14.  The Purple Eagles will continue their conference play on the road with in-state foe Syracuse on Jan. 20-21 before a home-and-home series against Robert Morris on Jan. 27-28.

The second half of the Purple Eagles conference schedule will start with a home series against Mercyhurst on Feb. 3-4 before traveling to Robert Morris on Feb. 10 and eventually welcoming Robert Morris to Dwyer on Feb. 12.  The regular season will conclude with a home weekend series against Syracuse on Feb. 24-25.

The 2012 CHA Tournament is from March 1-3 and will be hosted by Robert Morris University.
