College Hockey America Honor Roll

Sara O’Malley- Robert Morris (Senior, Forward, Guelph, Ontario) - O’Malley continued to rewrite the Robert Morris record book last week by registering a goal and an assist. The goal, which came off a beautiful redirect in front, gave O’Malley sole possession of first place in career goals scored in RMU history. This most recent milestone for O’Malley, who now has 44 career goals, came four weeks to the day after she broke the Colonials’ all-time points record at No. 4 Mercyhurst. O’Malley’s fourth multi-point game of the season and 22nd of her career also allowed her to become the first Colonial in history to reach the 80-point plateau last weekend. She also now has 10 points in eight career games against Maine.

Kristen DiCiocco – Robert Morris (Sophomore, Goaltender, Niagara Falls, Ontario) - DiCiocco recorded a 1.57 GAA in over 76 minutes of action last weekend with one of the two goals she allowed coming on the power play. Despite allowing the one man-advantage tally, she held Maine, which has one of the top 10 conversion percentages on the power play nationally, to just a 1-for-8 mark while she was between the pipes.

Pamela Zgoda - Merchyhurst  (Junior, Defense, Cheektowaga, N.Y.) - Zgoda led all scorers with a goal and an assist in Mercyhurst’s 4-2 victory over Colgate last Saturday at Tullio Arena. Helping the Lakers stretch their winning streak to three games, Zgoda scored the first goal of the game less than five minutes into the second period and assisted on freshman Christine Bestland’s goal which broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Lakers the lead for good. She now has two goals and 10 points on the season, with both goals coming in back-to-back games.

Hillary Pattenden- Mercyhurst  (Junior, Goaltender Surrey, British Columbia) - Pattenden moved her record to 10-2-0 on the season with the win over Colgate last Saturday. She stopped 15 shots and allowed no even- strength goals, surrendering both scores on six power-play opportunities. With the victory, she now has won her last three decisions.

Christine Bestland- Mercyhurst (Freshman. Forward, Brunkild, Manitoba) -Bestland scored her fifth goal of the season and first game-winning goal of her career in a 4-2 win over the Raiders on Saturday. Less than a minute after the Lakers regained the lead, at 2-1, she put the Lakers up by two by deflecting in junior Bailey Bram’s shot on the doorstep.

Julie Ingratta - Wayne State (Sophomore, Forward, Markham, Ontario) - Ingratta factored into both game-winning goals as WSU swept Minnesota State with a pair of shutouts.  She assisted on the power-play game-winner in Friday’s 6-0 win, and scored the lone goal 13 seconds into the third period of Saturday’s 1-0 victory.  Ingratta also scored a goal in the second period on Friday, and finished the weekend +2 with five shots on goal.

Cari Coen - Wayne State (Freshman Defense, Manhattan Beach, Calif.) - Coen’s first career goal was the game-winner in Friday’s 6-0 victory over Minnesota State, as she scored a power-play goal midway through the opening period.  Coen had a +1 rating for the series.

Senior captain Meghan Agosta scored her team-leading 14th  goal of the season and second short-handed in the victory. Junior Hillary Pattenden moved her record to 10-2-0 with 15 stops and no even- strength goals allowed. Mercyhurst returns to College Hockey America play this weekend when Niagara visits the Mercyhurst Ice Center for a pair of games beginning on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The Lakers are 33-6-3 all-time against the Purple Eagles but have dropped their past two games against them by a single goal.

Niagara:The Niagara Purple Eagles were swept in their weekend series at the second-ranked Cornell Big Red to drop their record to 3-10-3 on the season. Niagara dropped both games 6-0. The defeat on Friday was Niagara’s worst defeat since Feb. 2009…Niagara played in its sixth straight road game. The Purple Eagles will conclude their eight-game road trip with another meeting against a top five ranked team. Niagara opens conference play at No. 4 Mercyhurst in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday. Niagara has won the last two meetings with the Lakers, including a 4-3 overtime win on Nov. 6 at Dwyer in a designated non-conference game.

Robert Morris: Robert Morris’ six-game winning streak against Maine ended Friday evening as the Black Bears came out on top, 4-2. It was still a memorable night for Colonial fans as senior assistant captain Sara O'Malley scored her 44th career goal to gain sole possession of first place in all-time goals scored at Robert Morris. A week after taking the most shots by an opponent against No. 1 Wisconsin this season, Robert Morris outshot Maine by a significant margin Friday, 44-15. The 44 shots attempted were the sixth most in school history while the 15 allowed were the fewest in the Colonials’ past 147 games. Junior assistant captain Kathryn Stack scored with just over five minutes remaining in regulation to even the game and help RMU earn a 1-1 tie with Maine Saturday. It marked the first time in its last 39 games that Robert Morris scored a goal in the final 10 minutes of the third period to force overtime. For the second consecutive game, Robert Morris had a decided advantage in the shot department as the Colonials outshot Maine 43-19. The 34 shots allowed in the two games are the fewest RMU has ever allowed in back-to-back outings combined. Robert Morris now departs for the longest in-season road trip in program history as the Colonials will play their next eight games away from Pittsburgh, beginning with a trip to Minnesota State next weekend, Dec. 3-4, for a two-game series.

Syracuse: Syracuse went 1-1-1 in three non-conference games last week to move to 6-6-2 overall. The Orange beat Colgate for the first time in program history, 4-3. In a two-game series with RPI, SU registered a 2-1 loss and a 2-2 overtime tie. Syracuse and Colgate traded goals for the first two periods until the Orange took its final lead, 4-3, with one minute remaining in the second period. Senior Julie Rising tallied the go-ahead goal on an SU power-play. Freshman goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater earned her fourth win in net (4-1-1) and turned away 27 Raider shots, including 14 in the final period to hold Colgate scoreless. In game one against RPI, Syracuse was edged, 2-1. Despite outshooting the Engineers, 13-6, in the final period, the Orange could not manage the game-tying goal. SU’s Isabel Menard put the Orange on the board first in the second period. The Engineers fired back with two goals before the end of the second period to lead, 2-1, heading into intermission. The Orange had several opportunities in the third period, including three power-plays, but RPI held off SU’s attack. Three of SU's 30 shots bounced off the post and went wide. In game two against the Engineers, Syracuse senior Ashley Cockell fired the game-tying goal in the second period to force overtime where the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Despite outshooting RPI, 12-5, in the first period, the Engineers led, 2-0, heading into the first intermission. Senior Julie Rising cut the Engineers lead to one and Cockell evened the score on a power-play. The Orange tallied two shots in the overtime period, while the Engineers registered three, but neither team could manage the game-winning score. Freshman goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater turned away 27 of RPI's shot attempts, including 11 in the third period to keep the Engineers scoreless.

Wayne State: Wayne State earned a pair of shutout victories, 6-0 on Friday and 1-0 on Saturday, on Thanksgiving weekend against Minnesota State.  Junior goaltender Delayne Brian turned aside all 67 shots she faced in the series and became the first goalie since 2005 to record back-to-back shutouts.  She has four shutouts this season, which ties the school record, and eight for her career.  Ten different players had at least one point in the series, including sophomore Julie Ingratta who had three points and factored into both game-winning goals.  Junior Alyssa Baldin and sophomore Julie Hebert each posted three-point performances on Friday in WSU's most lopsided victory since a 7-0 win at Vermont on Nov. 8, 2008.  The Warriors will travel to Syracuse this weekend before wrapping up the 2010 calendar year Dec. 30-31 at Ohio State.
