NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Sophomore Cailtin Jenkins continued her scoring touch against Syracuse with a two-goal effort in Niagara's 2-1 win over the Orange on Friday night from the Dwyer Arena.

"I am really happy with the effort from everyone tonight," head coach Chris MacKenzie said. "It was a closely contested game and it came down to goalies and special teams."

Niagara (10-11-4, 5-4-2 CHA) and Syracuse (15-13-1, 6-5-0 CHA) played in another tightly contested game tonight. The teams played in another one-goal game for the fourth time in their eighth all-time meeting.

Jenkins scored her third goal in the last two meetings against Syracuse; she scored the game-winning goal at Syracuse on Nov. 7. She put Niagara on the board with a power-play goal 12 minutes into the first period. Freshman Daniela Dal Colle won the puck along the left boards in SU's zone and sent a centering pass to Jenkins in front net who beat goalie Lucy Schoedel.

Niagara was seconds away from taking a 1-0 lead into the second period, but the Orange grabbed an equalizer with a power-play goal of its own with two seconds left in the period.

The Purple Eagles regained the lead for good in the second period. Jenkins scored her second goal of the game with another power-play goal midway through the period with assists coming from freshmen Kathleen Bortuzzo and Dal Colle.

Jenni Bauer, who finished the game with 15 saves, denied the Orange its best chance in the third when she stopped Janelle Malcolm on a breakaway with six minutes left in the period.

NU hosts SU on Saturday at 2 p.m. where eight seniors will be honored on senior day.
