FUSSEN and SONTHOFEN, Germany - Senior Bailey Bram and her sister, freshman Shelby Bram, are currently participating in the 2012 Meco Cup for Canada's National Women's Under-22/Development Team with the hopes of defending Canada's gold medal at the tournament. Canada will play its first game of the tournament against the host country, Germany, on Tuesday, January 3, beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Bailey will serve as an alternate captain at the tournament when Team Canada wears its red jerseys.

The Meco Cup, formerly known as the MLP Cup and Air Canada Cup, gives Canada's National Women's Under-22/Development Team the opportunity to compete with national teams from Germany, Finland, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland. Canada enters this year's Meco Cup as the defending gold medallist, having won eight of nine gold medals since the tournament's inception in 2003.

Canada's National Women's Under-22/Development Team began with two exhibition games against Slovakia in Bratislava, Slovakia on December 30 and 31, with Canada posting back-to-back shutouts, 8-0 and 5-0 respectively. In the two games, Shelby had one goal and one assist, while Bailey had two helpers in preparation for the Meco Cup.

A senior from Ste. Anne, Manitoba, Bailey currently leads the nation with 48 points in Mercyhurst's 18 regular season games, a 2.67 points per game average. She has 21 goals and 27 assists on the season, and she also leads the nation with 10 power play goals. Meanwhile, Shelby, playing in her first season with the Lakers, has six goals and 11 assists in her first 18 collegiate games, placing her second on the team (eighth in the nation) among rookies.

Following the opening game with Germany on Tuesday, January 3, Canada will play against Russia on January 4, Switzerland on January 6, Sweden on January 7, and Finland on January 8.
