College Hockey America Weekend Preview
The third weekend of November has arrived for College Hockey America with three-conference games included a Tuesday night showdown and six non-conference games. Robert Morris plays at Rensselaer, Mercyhurst plays at Yale, RIT is at Brown and Penn State plays two CHA conference games at Lindenwood. Syracuse will have the weekend off but hosts RIT on Tuesday.
Lindewood (0-10-0) will host fellow CHA newcomer Penn State (3-6-2) in a two-game set. The Lady Lions are lead by sophomore Alison Wickenheiser with three points on a goal and two assists. Freshman goalie Nicole Hensley leads the CHA in saves with 365. The Lady Lions are facing Nittany Lions for the first time.
Penn State will also be looking for their first CHA win. Leading the Nittany Lions in offense is freshman Shannon Yoxheimer (10-4-14) and junior Taylor Gross (3-10-13). Junior goalie Nicole Paniccia record is 4-5-1 and she has a 2.89 goals against average with a .925 save percentage in ten starts.
Mercyhurst (10-1-1) takes on Yale (1-7-0) in New Haven, Conn. in a two-game series. The Lakers lead the all-time series 10-0-1. Mercyhurst is led by junior captain Christine Bestland with 31 points on nine goals and 22 assists and freshman Emily Janiga with 19 points on nine goals and ten assists. Senior goalie Stephanie Ciampa remains a perfect 7-0, with 1.15 GAA and .945 save percentage.
The Colonials (5-2-1) take on Rensselaer (2-7-1) in a two-game set. Robert Morris trails 4-7-1 in the all-time series, but have won the last three meetings. The Colonials offense is led by sophomore Rebecca Vint (8-4-12) and senior Kelsey Thomas (5-6-11). In net Kristen DiCiocco record is 4-2-1, while maintaining a .911 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average.
RIT (4-4-2) will play three games in five days. This weekend they play at Brown (1-5-0) twice and then travel to Syracuse on Tuesday night to take on the Orange. This past Saturday they skated to a 2-2 tie. The Tigers are led by senior Ariane Yokoyama (1-6-7) and freshman Carly Payerl (3-4-7). Sophomore goalie Ali Binnington has been strong with a 3-1-1 record, .902 save percentage and 2.19 goals against average.
Syracuse (5-5-1) host just the single game against RIT. The Orange are led by freshman Laurie Kingsbury (5-4-9) and sophomore Nicole Ferrara (3-6-9). Junior goalie Kallie Billadeau has a 1.38 goals against average has a .940 save percentage. She has an overall record of 4-2-0 with three shutouts.
