Mercyhurst's Bestland, RIT's Binnington Earn All-USCHO Team Honors

Minneapolis, Minn – Mercyhurst senior forward Christine Bestland, and RIT junior goaltender Ali Binnington were selected to the USCHO.com Division I women's ice hockey Third Team announced Friday afternoon.

Bestland, a native of Brunkild, Manitoba, completed her senior season with 51 points on 20 goals and 31 assists. Of the 20 goals, four deemed power-play goals, four game-winners and five were a season-high and nation led in shorthanded goals. As a forward, Bestland led the team in both goals and assists and was named the College Hockey America Player of the Year for back to back seasons and was also awarded the CHA scoring trophy. She was also recently named an ACHA/CCM All-America. She also finished the season with 25 blocked shots, was a +37 plus/minus rating and posted 176 shots.

Binnington, a junior goaltender, was named MVP and earned All-Tournament Team honors at the CHA Tournament, leading the Tigers to its first CHA Championship in just its second season as a Division I program. Binnington ended the season by winning seven straight contests, allowing just six goals on her last 240 shots faced (.975 save percentage and 0.77 goals against average). Binnington finished the season 16-9-2 with a 1.72 goals against average, .944 save percentage, and six shutouts this season.

Bestland and Binnington were the only players from their schools selected to the all-USCHO teams; Robert Morris' Jessica Dodds and Brittany Howard were selected to the USCHO All-Rookie team, giving the league four players out of the 24 selected. The CHA also claims three of the 15 schools represented among the teams. Minnesota led with five honors, while NCAA Champion Clarkson has three.
