Lakers Volunteer for "Veterans Patients Week"
ERIE, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Mercyhurst University
women's hockey team took time between classes to visit the
Veteran's Hospital in Erie, Pa. on Tuesday afternoon.
This week is "National Salute to Veteran Patients Week" where across the nation people were encouraged to visit a veteran patient to show their thanks. The women's hockey team participated in the "Visit a Vet for Valentine's Day" program at the VA Hospital to show appreciation for all they have done.
The Lakers stopped by the VA Hospital this afternoon to spend time with some veterans who have served all across the world. The squad spent time in their hospital rooms as well as the community lounge to talk about events during their service. The squad also handed out some Valentine's Day cards to the men and women that the girls made prior to visiting.
Also at the VA Hospital on Tuesday afternoon was the Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Corbett. Governor Corbett wished the girls the best of luck throughout the rest of their season. He also spoke of kind words of the Lakers taking the time out of their studies to visit the men and women who served out country.
